BRAC applauds Capital Area Road and Bridge District

Plaquemine Post South

The Capital Area Road and Bridge District met today for an organizational meeting that included a presentation by DOTD on steps that must be taken to build a new bridge across the Mississippi River. The District, which was created in 2018 via legislation by State Senator Rick Ward, is comprised of the parish presidents of Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Livingston, Iberville, and West Baton Rouge, the Secretary of DOTD, and Mike Wampold, the Governor’s appointee.

“Last year more than $1 billion in infrastructure investments were announced for priority projects in the Capital Region.” said Adam Knapp, president and CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. “A new Mississippi River crossing is the next project on the priority list, the one that will tie all these investments together and make them especially impactful on traffic congestion.”

The District is authorized to take those steps necessary to finance, design, and build regional transportation infrastructure, and is charged first with doing so for a new bridge.
