Conference to provide leadership development for area young professionals
BATON ROUGE, La. (May 9, 2023) — The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) and Forum 225 today announced the return of the YP Summit presented by NAI Latter & Blum on June 28 and 29, 2023.
“Last year, we had an overwhelming response from the community with a sold-out event,” said Maggi Spurlock, BRAC’s director of talent development. “This year, we want to build on that by expanding programming, offering more options for attendees to tailor the experience to what they want for their professional development, while continuing to instill a sense of pride and belonging that will encourage them to plant roots and grow their careers here in Baton Rouge.”
The summit will take place at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center, featuring a keynote presentation by Katie Pryor, executive director of Film Baton Rouge, break-out sessions, a college intern cohort, and a happy hour. The goal of the YP Summit is to teach area young professionals how to navigate the professional waters of Baton Rouge and how to level up their career through interactive and informational presentations led by some of Baton Rouge’s most active and influential young professionals.
“Forum 225 believes in the catalytic power of Baton Rouge’s emerging leaders – its young professionals and its young people,” said Tyler Litt, president of Forum 225. “Our team believes this summit will support YPs in identifying their niche, defining their leadership voice, and strategically connecting them to opportunities for impact within the Baton Rouge community.”
Programming will include four session tracks, professional, personal, leadership, and community development, and an exclusive track for college students. Sessions include “Mission Possible: Growing Your Career and Community through Nonprofit Involvement,” “Leadership is Action, Not Title,” “Congrats! You are the Manager…Now What?,” “Conducting Crucial Conversations,” and more. The full event agenda and list of speakers can be found at brac.org/ypsummit.
The college track, a new addition to the program this year, will create a small cohort of college students for the day who will be grouped together and offered exclusive sessions geared towards entering the workforce in the Capital Region. BRAC encourages businesses to register their college student interns for the summit as a professional development complement to the students’ on-the-job training. This registration option is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
Event registration is available at brac.org/events. Registration for the summit, which includes access to all programming, lunch, and a pre-event evening happy hour, is $100 for general registration and $25 for college student participants opting into the college track. Early bird registration is available for the general admission ticket from May 9 to 26 for a discounted price of $75.
The event is presented by NAI Latter & Blum, and sponsored by Turner Industries, Cox Communications, Campus Federal, Community Coffee, and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Louisiana. Additional sponsorships are still available. Interested organizations can contact BRAC’s Michelle Mahaffey LeJeune at michelle.lejeune@brac.org for more information.
