BRAC Named a Top 20 Economic Development Organization by Site Selection

BRAC recognized for excellence in job creation & capital investment attraction

BATON ROUGE, La. (May 2, 2022) — The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) today received the 2022 Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development by Site Selection magazine.

“This award signals economic momentum in the Capital Region,” said Russell Richardson, BRAC Senior Vice President of Business Development. “While we take time to celebrate and thank our board of directors, staff, and investors that made this recognition possible, we also let this serve as a motivator to raise the bar and stay relentless in our goal of accelerating economic opportunity in the Baton Rouge Area, for everyone.”

The honor is awarded to the top 20 local and regional U.S. economic development groups based on an index of corporate job creation and facility-related capital investment data calculated both cumulatively and per capita. In 2021, BRAC welcomed 17 new business entries or expansions of existing businesses to the market resulting in 1,800 new direct jobs and over $8 billion in capital investment. This includes unanimous approval for a critical ExxonMobil modernization, the redevelopment of the Cortana Mall into an Amazon logistics hub, new software development jobs, and renewable and transitional energy projects like Air Products and commercial solar developments.

“The Mac Conway Awards honor those local and regional agencies that excelled in attracting capital investment to their areas in 2021,” says Mark Arend, Editor in Chief of Site Selection. “While that investment is significant, the awards more specifically recognize the jobs created by new and expanding projects and the local economic benefit that follows.”

Other groups amongst the honorees include Opportunity Austin, Charleston Regional Development Alliance, Nashville Chamber of Commerce, One Columbus, and more. Additional information about the award and the 2021 honorees can be found at siteselection.com.
