BRAC Releases Report on Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Capital Region
Annual report summarizes state of regional innovation economy in anticipation of Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week

Baton Rouge, La. (November 11, 2016) – The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) today published its annual entrepreneurship and innovation report benchmarking regional entrepreneurship activity and the growth of the local innovation economy, and offering recommendations to address some of the region’s weaknesses. The report is available at brac.org/research.

“In anticipation of a stellar lineup for Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week, we prepared an annual report on the state of entrepreneurship and innovation in the region. It shows that entrepreneurs and small businesses have provided a disproportionate share of employment growth in the region over the last five years,” said Adam Knapp, president and CEO of BRAC. “Furthermore, a key metric of innovation for LSU – invention disclosures – is up by an astonishing 80 percent since its leadership made changes two years ago. The area’s climate for entrepreneurship and innovation is moving in the right direction. The BREW events next week have a lot to celebrate.”

The report explores several trends and metrics related to the region’s entrepreneurship and innovation, including access to capital, worker productivity, innovation education, patenting and more.
