BRAC sets itinerary for Super Region Canvas trip to Sun Corridor; registration deadline is Thursday

Business Report

Among those who will speak to leaders from the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas attending the Super Region Canvas trip in Arizona next month will be Grady Gammage Jr., lead author of Megapolitan: Sun Corridor and a senior fellow at Arizona State University’s Institute for Public Policy. Gammage will outline the Phoenix and Tucson areas’—known to locals as the Sun Corridor—20-year plan to develop the area into an economically strong and dynamic “super-region.”

Gammage will be just one of a number of experts who will address the Super Region Canvas group during the trip, according to an itinerary released by BRAC this morning.

“The Canvas trip will feature a diverse panel of experts from the private and public sectors, as well as academia on a range of topics that will be instructive to the Super Region delegation,”  BRAC President and CEO Adam Knapp says in a prepared statement.

Panel presentations will focus on education and workforce, health care and bioscience, entrepreneurship, transportation planning and economic growth.  Experts from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Arizona State University’s Mayo Clinic Proton Beam Therapy Center and executives from private industry are scheduled to speak.

The Canvas trips are meant to give participants greater perspective on how peer cities handle critical issues. They have taken place about every other year since 2003. BRAC formerly organized the trips on its own, but in 2013 it began partnering with regional economic development group Greater New Orleans Inc. to increase regional cooperation among south Louisiana’s business communities.

The trip will take place April 19-21. The cost to attend is $2,200, which includes the flight and hotel accommodations as well as workshop registration. Registration closes on Thursday. Get complete event and registration details.
