BRAC’s Economic Indicator Dashboard examines and assesses the impact of COVID-19 on the regional economy, taking into account a number of data points to illustrate the economy’s current state, and to keep businesses informed as it rebounds. The dashboard is released monthly. Past dashboards are archived on brac.org/recovery.
Key findings from this month’s dashboard include:
- Unemployment claims rose in the first week ending in 2021, but it is unclear whether this is due to job loss or the extension of unemployment benefits by the federal government;
- The Capital Region added 2,000 jobs over-the-month, meaning we are down approximately 21,000 jobs since the pandemic’s high of 55,100 lost;
- Hotel occupancy was higher than the last week in 2019, 37% to 34%, but revenues this year were approximately $100,000 lower for the week;
- Mobility was down for most destinations outside of the workplace, indicating that a large number of businesses are still open in the region.
