BRAC’s Russell Richardson Awarded Top 50 Economic Developer Award

BATON ROUGE, La. (May 17, 2024) — The Baton Rouge Area Chamber today announced that its Senior Vice President of Business Development Russell Richardson has been honored as a recipient of the 2024 Top 50 Economic Development Award, a prestigious recognition that celebrates the outstanding achievements of economic developers across the globe.

The annual accolade is bestowed by Consultant Connect, a national consulting firm bridging the gap between leading economic developers and site selection consultants. The award honors professionals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and effectiveness in driving economic growth and prosperity in their communities, acknowledging individuals who have made significant contributions to their regions by implementing strategic initiatives, forging partnerships, and leveraging resources to stimulate economic development.

“We applaud and congratulate Russell on this most-deserved honor,” said Ann Trappey, BRAC interim president and CEO. “Russell has been instrumental in securing large-scale investments in our community and leading efforts to grow the region’s emerging sectors, such as future energy and life sciences. His leadership and commitment to the Capital Region have significantly advanced our mission, and we are immensely proud of his achievements.”

Russell joined BRAC in August of 2015 and took the role of Senior Vice President of Business Development in December of 2017. In this role, Russell works collaboratively with economic development professionals and the business community to lead and manage economic development efforts in the Capital Region.

In 2023, Russell led BRAC’s Business Development team in securing 12 new investments to the Capital Region, representing nearly 500 new direct jobs, retaining 2,100 existing jobs, and $430 million in capital investment. Additionally, the team announced five feasibility investment opportunities representing a potential of $4.1 billion in capital investment and 1,851 new jobs.
