FuturePAC, the political arm of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, announced its list of endorsed candidates Tuesday morning, with one official nod in a Board of Elementary and Secondary Education race.
In District 8, FuturePAC has overlooked incumbent Carolyn Hill and is instead backing challenger Jada Lewis, the assistant dean at the LSU College of Engineering. The political action committees controlled by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry are also supporting Lewis and have donated $40,000 to her campaign.
FuturePAC is also playing in another 16 legislative races. It has thrown its support behind Rep. Dalton Honoré, who is running against fellow Baton Rouge Rep. Regina Barrow in Senate District 15, which is an open seat due to Sen. Sharon Weston Broome being term limited. Rep. Eddie Lambert, who is running in the open Senate District 18, likewise has the official seal of approval.
Transportation and fiscal reform are top priorities for FuturePAC in the upcoming elections. “The candidates endorsed by FuturePAC have proven that they understand the needs of the business community,” said Stephen Babcock, chair of FuturePAC’s board of directors.
Receiving FuturePAC’s endorsement in the upper chamber are incumbent Sens. Troy Brown, Bodi White, Dale Erdey, Rick Ward and Neil Riser. In the House, the PAC is backing incumbent Reps. Major Thibaut, Edward J. Price, Kenneth E. Havard, Barry Ivey, Steve Carter, Franklin J. Foil, Clay Schexnayder, John A. Berthelot and Sherman Q. Mack.
