Meet Will Phelps
Occupation: Account Executive
Organization: Vantage Health Plan
When and why did you get involved with BRAC?
I got involved with BRAC in 2016. I made the transition from working in my company’s Member Services department to our Marketing department. My new job as one of Vantage’s Baton Rouge Account Executives required a lot of networking and I was always told that BRAC was a great place to make connections and meet people.
Vantage is a locally-owned company out of Monroe that specializes in new and innovative ways to provide healthcare to the people of Louisiana in the Individual, Group and Medicare Advantage markets. The fact that Vantage and BRAC are striving for the same goal of making the community better was one of the most intriguing things to me when I started working this area. I had always attended lunches and things of that nature, but I had heard there were other ways to be involved. Being an Ambassador was the perfect way for me to not only help get my company’s name out to the people of Baton Rouge, but also to let the people of Baton Rouge know that BRAC is an organization that strives to enhance the community every single day.
Tell us more about how you are involved in Baton Rouge?
Currently I work out of Vantage’s Baton Rouge office located on Essen Lane down the street from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. My job has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of the amazing people. I’m a member of GBR SHRM and I am my company’s representative to the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging.
Why do you stay involved with BRAC?
I stay involved with BRAC because of the people. The people of BRAC embody what it means to come together for a common goal. I love the fact that so many people from so many different backgrounds can put aside the hustle and bustle of everyday life and come together because they see the bigger picture and they know that we are stronger together. That’s why I do my best to be as involved as I can be.
What would you tell someone considering becoming a BRAC investor?
I would tell them to do it. The long-term relationships that will be made are very beneficial.
What do you see for the future of Baton Rouge? How will we get there?
I see Baton Rouge becoming the tourism hub the community envisions it to be. I believe through stellar marketing and highlighting the great qualities of the community and city, Baton Rouge will get there.
What’s one of the most exciting things you see happening in the Baton Rouge Area today?
The most exciting thing I see happening in Baton Rouge is the development. It has been great to see so many businesses coming to the Baton Rouge Area. I really am enjoying the growth in the community.BRAC’s Ambassador Program is designed to allow company representatives to actively build relationships with BRAC investors and business leaders while serving as advocates of BRAC’s work.
Each month, BRAC highlights one of these ambassadors in the Ambassador Spotlight. To learn more about the Ambassador Program visit the program page here.
