BATON ROUGE, La. (September 27, 2017) – Today, FuturePAC announced its endorsement of Mike Gaudet, one of three candidates for the upcoming East Baton Rouge Parish School Board District 7 special election. The primary election will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2017, although early voting begins September 30, 2017.
“Our PAC recognizes the vital role the public education system plays in economic development, as the front line of talent and workforce preparation for East Baton Rouge,” said Ann Forté Trappey, chair of the FuturePAC board of directors. “We were very impressed by Mr. Gaudet’s focus on ways to improve student achievement, including expansion of pre-school programs and greater access to high-quality STEM education.”
The District 7 school board seat was formerly held by Barbara Freiberg, who vacated the seat in January 2017 after her election to the East Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council. Freiberg received endorsements from FuturePAC in both her elections for school board and for her election to the Metro Council. Gaudet has been serving as the interim District 7 representative on the school board since Freiberg’s service started with the Metro Council.
BRAC has been actively engaged in advocacy for and support of improved public education outcomes through the work of its Education and Workforce Issue Council. The BRAC Education and Workforce Issue Council has identified STEM learning and partnerships, alignment between education systems and business needs, and improved access to high-quality schools as major components of its strategy to cultivate the region’s talent and transform the Baton Rouge Area’s quality of life.
