FuturePAC Poll on CATS Renewal Finds Strong Support

Baton Rouge, La. (September 16, 2021) – Today, FuturePAC released the full summary of a poll conducted on the Capital Area Transit System (CATS) millage renewal by JMC Analytics and Polling August 19-22, 2021, among 400 households considered likely voters in East Baton Rouge Parish. The poll found a strong majority of voters (57%) favored the renewal. The full summary is available here.

The survey included questions related to CATS’ property tax renewal and perceptions of the transit system’s performance. The tax extension will go before area voters on November 13.

When asked how they would vote if the election were held the day of the survey, respondents tallied as follows:

  • Yes: 57%
  • No: 31%
  • Undecided: 12%

When asked to give their opinion about the CATS system, there is a substantial difference of opinion depending on whether the poll respondent uses the CATS system. In general, its “excellent” + “good” rating exceeds its “poor” rating by a 29-18% margin. Those using the CATS bus system, however, have a muchmore favorable impression: 59-20% “excellent”/”good” vs “poor.”

Additional questions related to CATS’ performance are included in the attached executive summary by JMC Analytics and Polling.

The primary election will take place on November 13, and early voting will begin on October 30.
