Jackson
Jackson lies close to the Mississippi border in East Feliciana Parish. Every spring, visitors come from all around to attend the Jackson Assembly Antiques and Art Show, the town’s long-standing annual fundraiser for the preservation and updates of Jackson’s historic buildings and structures. The event offers an antique show, a regional artists’ showcase and tours of historic downtown Jackson, as well as local vendor samplings of homemade candy, pralines and cookies.
Locals love Jackson because:
- Many residents are long-time volunteers for the Jackson Assembly Antiques and Art Show, which has been held every spring for over 50 years.
- The Republic of West Florida Historical Museum displays late 19th and early 20th century artifacts including military memorabilia, antique vehicles, model ships and musical instruments.
- Jackson is the headquarters of the Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders, a nonprofit dedicated to sharing the joy of model trains with members of the community. Every spring and fall, the group hosts open house events to give public demonstrations of real steam model locomotives at one of only two publicly accessible outdoor garden railroads in Louisiana.
