Report shows new growth more jobs for Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – Students across Baton Rouge are excited about job opportunities after a study was put out by the Baton Rouge Area Chamber.

The report shows that the Baton Rouge economy is growing. BRAC officials say, this year alone, new development projects could bring 1,400 jobs to the area with skills like construction, welding and some in the health care filed in high demand.

This is good news for students like Darrell Stokes who is currently in Baton Rouge Community College’s welding program.

“I actually have a bachelor’s degree and I came back here to get this training because I felt like it will be a better opportunity to provide for my family,” said Stokes.

Nursing student Elizabeth Eagan was also glad to hear the news. She said her family moved to Baton Rouge because they felt there weren’t enough opportunities down in New Orleans.

“There isn’t a lot going on in New Orleans so that’s why I came up here to hopefully find a better life and a better job,” said Eagan.

Experts say many of these jobs require an associate’s degree or less.
