With a revitalized downtown buzzing with live music, dozens of museums, and art galleries; some of the best libraries in America; and over 180 parks which offer free activities ranging from rock climbing to paddle boarding lessons, there’s always something going on in the Baton Rouge Area to keep your calendar full.
Check out a few events happening around the region this month:
August 1-3: DIG Restaurant Week
The most treasured Baton Rouge amenity might just be our food – and nothing shows it off quite like DIG Restaurant Week. Take advantage by visiting participating restaurants and trying out their limited-edition menus. It’s the perfect week to try new places and dishes at a fraction of their normal cost.
August 4: Beautification Day
Give back to the community at Thrive Academy’s Beautification Day. Thrive recently completed its new academic center and is asking the community for help with moving furniture, gardening around the building, and touching up the paint.
August 9: Movies in the Park: Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse
Grab a comfy seat and join BREC at the BREC gymnasium for a free movie under the stars. Attendees can watch the action-packed, family-friendly movie Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. Get there early to participate in games and activities before the movie starts.
August 10: Project River Cleanup
Looking for an outdoor volunteer opportunity? Head to Denham Springs to participate in the Project River Cleanup at the Amite River. Volunteers with access to boats and fishing nets are especially needed to help.
August 10: Dancing for a Cause
Get ready to boogie at Dancing for a Cause! Watch local community leaders show off their dance moves in a Dancing with the Stars-themed competition to raise money for The Arc of East Ascension.
August 15: Live After Five Lineup Reveal Party
Head to Three Roll Estate in downtown Baton Rouge to find out the Fall 2019 lineup for Live After Five. The reveal party will include cocktails, live music and door prizes.
August 17: Vibes in the Ville
Enjoy live music, good food, and local shopping in downtown St. Francisville at this revamped event put on by St. Francisville’s Main Street merchants. Vibes in the Ville will have a “Woodstock” theme and plenty of music to transport you back to the era of good vibes and tie-dye.
August 17-18: Knock Stock Children’s Music Festival
Jam out at this Woodstock-themed, two-day children’s event featuring local artists, pop-up activities, and tons of games at the Knock, Knock Children’s Museum.
August 21: Carden Circus
Don’t miss the Carden Circus at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center! With high-flying acrobatics, elephants, lions, and tigers, this is a spectacular not to be missed.
August 22: Business Blitz
Boost your network at the Ascension Parish Chamber of Commerce’s Business Blitz. This tailgating-style event allows you to meet with local businesses while enjoying a few tailgating treats.
