Meet Christy Baker
Occupation/Company: Employee Benefits Broker/NFP Corporate Services (LA), Inc.
When and why did you get involved with BRAC?
NFP has been a member of BRAC for many decades now, but I personally got involved with BRAC last fall. I wanted to network and meet more local professionals in the area as well as get more involved with community events.
Tell us more about how you are involved in Baton Rouge (job or organizations).
I am a member of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Central Chamber of Commerce, Greater Baton Rouge Society for Human Resources Management, Industry of Faith, and Baton Rouge Association of Health Underwriters. Besides attending meetings and events for each organization, I also volunteer my time to in varies committees.
What would you tell someone thinking about joining the BRAC ambassador program?
Don’t think about it – just do it! It’s a lot of fun and you really get to know your peers and form great partnerships as well as friendships along the way.
What do you see for the future of Baton Rouge? How will we get there?
My hope for Baton Rouge is that we capitalize on our inherent strengths – the river, being the state capitol, strong industrial base – to catapult economic growth in a way other similar mid-size cities have done. I’m involved with BRAC because I see the role it can play in helping our friends and neighbors embrace this opportunity – we won’t get there unless we collectively decide we want to be great.
What’s one of the most exciting things you see happening in the Baton Rouge Area today?
The new Baton Rouge hockey team! We already have our season tickets!
What is your Baton Rouge favorite:
Place to eat? BLDG 5, City Pork, Stab’s Steak & Seafood, Tio Javi’s, Tsunami
Place to hang out? Red Stick Social, any LSU sporting event, Top Golf
Place to capture the perfect Instagram pic? LSU Botanic Gardens. They have a beautiful sunflower field!
Place to people watch? Downtown
Place to network? I love a good coffee shop for networking! CC’s Coffeehouse & Brew Ha Ha are two of my favorite meet up spots!
Way to give back? There are so many great opportunities to give back by simply volunteering your time, providing mentorship, or donating items or funds to a local organization. “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
